Clinton River Cruise. We will be cruising on board
the Clinton Friendship on Thursday July 23rd from 7:00-11:00 PM.

trip cruise on this former Bob-Lo boat from
The Captains Landing to the mouth of the
Clinton River, where it meets Lake St. Clair.

The cost of the cruise, including dinner and

They tell me they have very nice Christmas decorations and we will be in the side room in front of the fireplace.

Santa called me the other day and said he might just leave gifts for us at the Macaroni Grill as we have all been good girls (ha) this year.

Someone asked if we were going to have a gift exchange amongst ourselfs, so if you want, you may bring a gift, (under $10.00, please) to exchange with others who bring a gift for that purpose. All those who bring a gift will put their name in a gift bag and when your name is drawn you pick a gift. This gift exchange is very voluntary! Do not feel obliged to participate if you do not want to!

Well if you want to see pictures, you had better click on the title of this posting. I was having so much fun, I forgot to take pictures. Jack's is awesome. Check it out. Sorry I did not get any photos of the Stars that gathered there. We all had good food good company and fun, though since I have no pictures, I cannot prove it.

IN JULY WE CRUISED INTO CREWS INN

I know, pretty lame pun. It made me laugh when I wrote it though. At Crews Inn we celebrated Independence Day-- on July 7th.

I need to try to remember not to sit facing the light, or get up off my chair and move to where I can take a proper photo. I had to lighten these two photos in order to see anything other then shadow. Sorry about that.

Well, at least the picture I took of Shirley in her new Vice Queen crown turned out rather well. Don't you think? I think the crown is most becoming actually. Congradulations on your promotion and thanks for accepting Shirley!

Oh Boy was it hot when went to The Captains Landing in June! You would not have thought it would be as hot here in Michigan on the first Saturday in June, but it was!

Despite the heat, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Your Queen hosted this one. Are you still listening to Vicky and Brett's Sentimental Sappy CD? Have you used your crayons yet? By the way, you might see those crayons again. I have loads of them. Somehow I ordered two times as many crayon boxes as needed for the wedding reception. Darn those senior moments!

We also took a cruise on The Clinton Friendship. A murder happened on the cruise! Nancy solved it! She was rewarded with a nice treasure chest of prises! And all she set out to do was win a pair of Red Hat socks.

Did you know The Clinton Friendship used to be a Bob-Lo boat? She sailed on the Canadian side. Glad to see at least one of those boats is still being used.

Here comes one of my excuses for not updating our Blog in a timely fashion, watch for it!--> Shirley, our Vice Queen, graciously agreed to host our May luncheon, as your Queen, moi, was busy with our daughter Vicky's wedding, and then right after, we went with and helped move Vicky and Brett to Bellvue, Nebraska, where Brett is stationed with the Air Force.

I was not able to join you Stars at Bucca di Beppo, I was in Nebraska. Judging from the May Birthday Girl, Millie, you all must have had a really nice time.

(Millie, I know I promised you I would publish your birthday picture a couple of months ago, I hope you can forgive me for the delay.)

Happy Birthday to Dee and Nancy too, two more May birthday girls.

A SPECIAL VALENTINE IN ST CLAIR

Paula Alphonse and Pat Sebastian hosted our February Valentine luncheon at St. Clair Inn. Paula & Pat made and decorated cake hearts for each of us, and provided the door prizes ( I won a beautiful photo box in which I plan to store our Purple Star photos). There were other surprises too- heart necklaces and hat pins. It was cold so we did not have a large turn out, but with the private room Pat and Paula arranged for, the seven of us were able to hear and talk to everyone. There were pictures taken, and as soon as I get them from Shirley, who had the only camera, I will post them here.

Pat and Paula did a great job planing and hosting our February luncheon. Thank you both! You were GREAT!

As of now, I, your Queen, will be taking care of March & April's luncheons, with Sharon's help, and Shirley will be hosting May. Due to Vicky's May 4 wedding, I will not be able to attend our May meeting. If any of you would like to host or help host any future meetings, please let me know. I am even willing to relinquish April's duties. Please! Please!

CHRISTMAS IN JANUARY

Since some of The Purple Stars spent Christmas at the Castle in December. We had not had a chance to celebrate Christmas with just our Chapter members. So, our January luncheon became our Purple Stars Christmas Party. We went to Demetri's Rendezvous. They still had their Christmas decorations up on January 6th, our luncheon day. Wish I had thought to take a picture of the beautiful tree that greeted us in the entrance. Besides the normal Christmas tree decorations, the tree was also festooned with flowers. Very striking. Some of the decorations of lighted garlands are visible in these pictures, but the pictures just do not do justice to the their sparkle reflected in the mirrors.

The Dipsy Chix had a party. They called it Christmas at the Castle. It was a Christmas Party. They invited The Purple Stars. We went. We had a blast. I never saw so many Red Hatters in one place before. We ate, we sang, we were treated to a Red Hat - Pink Hat fashion show, we drew for prizes. We had a great time. Thank you Dipsy Chix! Hope you invite us again in 2007.

KAROL MAZE SEFCOVIC, QUEEN OF PUZZLES

It is with profound sadness that I must report the passing of our Red Hat Purple Stars sister, Karolyn Lee Kinsey Maze Sefcovic. Karol died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday Nov 7, 2006. She had suffered with Myasthenia Gravis and other chronic illnesses for the last few years. Born on the 4th of July, she was 68.

I have known Karol for 30 years. We met when she and her then husband ran the Shelter Foster home here in Macomb county. I was a State Ward Juvenile Delinquency worker with the Dept of Social Services, and placed State Wards with Karol while they awaited long term placement. Karol continued to shelter State Ward Delinquents and other State Wards while they waited placement for several years. She was terrific with the teenagers, many kept in touch with her well past their teen age years.

I was single when we met, whereas she was not, but soon this was reversed. Karol parted from her first husband, and I married my second, Tom. Karol liked Tom, and once said she would not get married again until she found a Tom like my Tom. Well she did. Karol married her Tom on 10-04-1997. I was a matron of honor and Victoria, our youngest daughter and Karol's God-daughter, was a junior bridesmaid.

Karol and I discovered the Red Hat Society at the same time. The Queen of The Purple Gang shopped at the Joann Fabrics store in New Baltimore, where Karol, then retired, worked part time. She invited Karol to one of their first luncheons. We both joined that chapter, and there was hardly any luncheons or other Red Hat activities that we did not go to together after that. Karol loved being a Red Hatter, and made a special effort to come to The Purple Stars first luncheon in August. She became our Queen of Puzzles, because she loved to do zig saw puzzles almost as much as she loved Red Hatting.

Karol was a great friend and a wonderful godmother to our daughter, a wife, mother, grandmother, and Red Hatter. She will be missed.

And on the right is Sharon's mother and new member, Loetta, in the shadows just beyond Sharon. Sorry about that, Loetta, will try to get a better picture next time you come out to play.

On the other side of Sharon are two more new members, Elaine & Mary, and part of The Chapeau Diva herself.

OCTOBER PURPLE STARS MEETING

To our SECOND meeting. The first one went so well; we thought we might as well have another.

Come and join us for lunch. We will continue to meet on the first Saturday of each month, at 1:00 o'clock, at least through the end of the year, perhaps longer. Remember, dues for this first year are FREE, so bring a friend or two, the more that come, the more we can have fun .

Our members are spread out from Fair Haven to Warren, so we are going to try to spread our luncheons out too. November is scheduled in Macomb, and December in Clinton Township, while October's meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, 1:00 PM at:

We really should have posed by the fireplace. The light behind was hard for my picture editing program to overcome. Any way, here are the Purple Stars at the Macaroni Grill

Karol, Queen of Puzzles, seems like she is really enjoying herself. Look at that smile. Karol does not get out as often as she used to, due to chronic illness. We were very happy to see she made it to our first meeting. Go Girl!!

I think we would all agree, Macaroni Grill staff took good care of our group. Here is one of the fine wait staff at the Grill behind the Chapeau Diva, Dolores, (who has not yet picked a Royal Title) and the Queen of Red Hats.

Sharon Hazard suggested it. I liked it, so be it. Everyone who joins The Purple Stars will be a Queen, or other Royal title of their choice. So far, I am Queen of Stars, of course. Sharon is Queen of Pink Hats, until she she turns 50 and has to abdicate. Pat is Queen of Red Hats because she has reached 50. And, Karol is Queen of Puzzles, cause she likes jig saw puzzles. You pick the title. Maybe you are going to do snail mail for the chapter, then you could be Queen of Communications. Or perhaps you Quilt, you could be Queen of Quilts. Well you get the picture. Every one is a Star in The Purple Stars. Email me for details.

Did not think I would ever do this. That is become Queen of a Red Hat Society Chapter, but circumstances change. So from now on I am Queen Sue of The Purple Stars. Get it? My last name starts with Star. LOL Well, anyway, here I am. The Purple Stars will be all about having fun in the way the members want to have fun. Come and join us for lunch. We tentatively will be meeting on the first Saturday of each month, at 1:00 o'clock. Don't know where the first meeting will be yet, but I will make an announcement here and via e-mail to all who are interested as soon as I have it arranged. If you have any suggestions, let me know. And one other thing, to get my group off to a good start, the first year membership is dues FREE.
